After a twitter conversation with the lovely Claire from aucuparia brumalis about "the nudes" I decided to shop my stash and see what my favorite nudes are!
Here's what I came up with:
My daily favorites of the bunch are Estee Lauder Crystal Baby and the Clinique Chubby Stick. As nudes though, Crystal Baby literally looks pink on me, and the Chubby Stick is too dark to be a true nude. I love the creaminess of MAC's Blankety, but it tends to make me look a bit washed out, and if my lips are dry, it emphasizes that fact. I almost never reach for MAC Hue or Hug Me as I find them quite sheer, and prefer a more opaque finish. Plus, both of them are harsh on my already dry lips. Hue isn't incredibly flattering on me, and I never think to use Hug Me even though I like the color on me.
The closest "nude" I own that I consider nude on my skintone, is actually the Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Cream in White Russian. I got this lip gloss in a Sephora 100 point perk and really really like it. I'm not a lip gloss girl at all - I much prefer lipsticks. But this lip gloss' combination of being plumping (and not being allergic to the plumping agents for once!) and the perfect nude made me fall in love. Perhaps nudes work better on me as glosses? MAC's Boy Bait on the other hand, is too sheer to give me the "nude lip effect".
Have you ever been on a mad search for the perfect nude? Right now, I'm contemplating NARS Pago Pago, MAC's High Tea, and various Le Metier de Beaute Lip Cremes.

I struggle with nudes. I like them but against the paleness of my complexion I need a bit more contrast. You've selected some pretty ones though!

DeleteYou should look through Une's Sheer Lips Balm range, it has gorgeous nudes. Their other ranges are also aimed at the nude look, but this one is my favourite :)

I also have Buxom White Russian - so beautiful! I agree on everything, they either tend to wash me out, or just look too pink. MAC pure zen is my most 'nude' colour I own. I have to have a 'good makeup' day though when I am going to wear it + a soft smokey eye. I think Lana Del Rey looks (most of the time) really pretty in the nudes she's wearing. ReplyDeleteYay! Can't wait to see your post! :) Nudes are so finicky and difficult - and they're different for every one! You're right though, Lana Del Rey always has the perfect nude on.
DeleteA nude lip is so so so difficult to find! I have trouble not looking dead or like my lips are HUGE. But all the nudey/mauvey/berry pinks either pull really purple or brown, so I'm trying to experiment with some colour theory to mix my perfect nude. PS MAC Hue kind of looks like a lipstick version of White Russian!

DeleteWith my bright red hair I need a peachier nude, and NARS Barbarella works for me! I want White Russian, but it's always out of stock here!

ReplyDeleteHue is flattering on almost anyone! :) The only problem I have with it is that if my lips are dry, it can emphasize that. But definitely give it a try if you can! :)
